This past week I wrote a letter to my US Senators. I have a PhD in philosophy; they represent Texas. We don't see eye to eye on (m)anything(s). I also wrote a 1200-word essay about the myth of originality in translation studies. I've pitched it to the LA Review of Books. It's time we de-disclipline this field and reject inherited practices that serve no purpose. I also drafted much of the narrative for my NEH grant so I can finish writing my book on Maurice Blanchot and his phenomenology of literature. The deadline is April 20. Today I organized my expense report for my 2014 taxes. Last year was a slow year: my report had expenses in only three currencies. Wednesday evening I went to a birthday party for Sergio Pitol that was hosted by his English translator and publisher. Afterwards I went to the Gang of Four concert in Deep Ellum. All of a sudden I was twenty-one again. Love all.
