NIGHT RIDER is Lisa Solberg's multidisciplinary project at Powder Mountain, Utah through the Artist in Residency program for Summit.
NIGHT RIDER, inspired first and foremost by the natural beauty of Powder Mountain and extensively by Dekotora, a type of extravagantly decorated truck in Japan, lives during both day and night. Now complete in Phase 1, the Snowcat features a chrome gold exterior to reflect it’s natural surroundings, as well as a reinvented interior- sprayed gold, considered by the artist as the inner self of the snowcat (and herself); delicate and raw, a subconscious stream of vignettes, haikus, and mottos layered with enamel paint, etchings and china marker (remember STALKER). The Snowcat is lit on the exterior and interior with red lights. Phase 2 involves the cohesive execution of Dekotora, applying lights and accessories in efforts of ultimately creating an authentic spectacle to be experienced exclusively by those who venture out onto the mountain. The Snowcat will be continually utilized and functioning on the mountain as it always was: transporting explorers and entrepreneurs of Summit to the world’s best playground- the backcountry of Powder Mountain.
Upon completion of Phase 2, Summit/Powder Mountain will be home to the World’s 1st and only Dekotora Snowcat!
