In the past few years, my interest in art has shifted from painting and drawing to film, photography, and design. However, I believe that my experience with a paintbrush and pencil has allowed me to expand my understanding of how the digital world of arts is produced. Seeing the designs in my sketchbook derived from random doodles come to life on a screen gives me a sense of opportunity in the art world. I developed my style through my years art painting with acrylics and drawing with charcoal, and now that style can be used and developed in various ways. I see a challenge in manipulating my style to fit into film, photography, and design and I believe that maintaining my originality will lead to success.
The mannerisms I observe in my surrounding fascinate me, and they are often the subject of my pieces. Understanding individuals and why they act the way they do is a concept that I have not ceased to be inspired by. Whether is a simple portrait that involves an abstract element to reflect on a paradoxical trait, or a photograph of random pedestrians on a side walk, my intent is for people to make connections and perhaps notice a new perspective. There is something about taking a concept and transforming into something else to misguide people intrigues me. I want the obvious message presented to be totally wrong, allowing questions to arise and minds to be changed.
I know that art will always be an aspect in my life, because I do not have convince myself that I enjoy it. I am individual who changes her mind quite often, however becoming an artist was has never been questioned. Expressing myself with words is also a challenge for me and something art has given me a chance to give life to my crazy ideas. I would like to learn how to utilize my style in even more medium, challenging my own norms. I hope to be more comfortable with expressing myself through programs like graphic design and illustrator through this class.
