Quick Monday #productupdate —
Last week we deployed a new layout for post details. Comments now live in a fixed right column, and the content fills the remaining left of the screen. Now you can always keep context of what you’re leaving a comment about, and on longer posts you can see the conversation right away without scrolling to the very bottom.
This update also ties into the recent update to the width of the rest of the site. We now constrain the site to 1360px wide and center it in the browser window. Previously the site was left aligned and allowed to flow 100% to the right, depending on the content. This was great for people on large monitors, you got to see giant images. Some people loved it, some people hated it (because you couldn’t see an image in its entirety). By constraining the width on streams, you can now see (generally) an entire image on a 13” laptop. But then going into the post detail still gives you a very large image if you’re on a very large monitor.
Side note: we still let grid view flow to 100% of the browser width. You can always change between list & grid by using the button in the lower right on the footer or hitting the
The post editor was also updated a few weeks ago to coincide with the new site width. It is now centered, wider and has an updated look and feel with more clear buttons.
And the logo! We added a logotype to our identity system. I will follow up with an update all about it really soon.
If you find any bugs with the new layouts, feel free to mention me or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org - we really appreciate it.
