A woman’s place is everywhere. The images in my submission come from my “A Woman’s Place” series, some of which were featured in recent Nasty Women and other exhibitions in NYC, Melbourne, Pennsylvania, and Berlin. Each image includes photograph of a suburban home with a boldly retouched colored sky overlaid by a white medical diagram depicting some part of the female anatomy. Subtly political, this series confronts outmoded norms about women's roles. These images are also a direct reflection of my personal aesthetic of deliberately trying to photograph environments without people, working in image sets, and pushing image quality past the ideal exposure to reveal the imperfections of digital light, color, and pixels. I'm also a huge fan of traditional and digital collage, and these images reflect my exploration into that realm.
