I'm Lune van der Meulen (1991) an artist, actress and all-round creative from the Netherlands. In my art my main inspiration is still the human being and the rawer, darker sides of this being and of our lives. I'm fascinated by people's dualities and contradictions, by the choices we make and by what is good and what is evil in our eyes. I'm always searching for ambiguity in my work, for something beyond a first glance or first impression, and for a certain vulnerability in the hope that it might tell something about what it means to be human.
This is an ongoing series of paintings in which I'm exploring my anxieties and fears through popculture & icons from my youth up until now. Recurring themes are insecurity, womanhood, sexuality, doubt, anxiety & fear. The paintings are made with both oils and acrylics, as well as oil pastels and graphite pencils. I start every painting with a general idea of what I want to put out on the canvas, but I let my intuition and associations loose while painting. I strive to have fun while I'm painting and strive to surprise myself.
