Fourth chapter of my life
Sometimes in life , you believe in destiny and you are hence convinced that everything is pre-planned for you… Here is what destiny planned for me in the next few months … A friend of mine introduced me to a designer, who ran a store in Pune. Since I had to work and gather some experience to complete my PhD project, I picked “Marketing and Business Ethics” as my topic, something everyone found funny initially, including myself.
I worked at the store for nearly 3 months but due to the inability of gaining relevant experience, I decided to focus on my studies rather than investing time working. A week after I stopped working, I recieved a call from my boss’s best friend asking me why I wasn’t at the store, to which I explained saying that I needed to be in a marketing and management team, as that will help me with my PhD project. He heard me out and said he’d talk to his brother about it. Later that week, he set up an interview for me with the chairman of a Real Estate developer. I prepared myself for the interview despite of having no clue who would be interviewing me!! Today, I look back to appreciate destiny’s wonders! Who knew that the man who interviewed me that day would now become my “guru”? The sole person who has taught me everything that i know about the business world today?!
Back to the day of the interview. While absorbing the ambience of the meeting room, I was waiting for the chairman of the company- Mr. Atul Chordia to arrive. He arrived and the interview began. During the interview, I requested him to give me a month to complete my backpacking in north of India before I commenced work, as I wanted to go to all the temples and discover Buddha’s land. He smiled at me and said “No problem!” Approximately an hour later, the interview was done and went through well. Guess what! That’s how I got absorbed by one of the best companies of India – Panchshil Realty and got one the best bosses in the world !!!
My work tenure as a management trainee in the sales and marketing department, was a great learning process . I attended as many seminars and meetings as I could. Most importantly, my PhD project was getting all the aid it required too!!!
After being in most of the departments at Panchshil as a trainee, I chose to focus on retail. I blended in the retail team, worked hard and gave it all my attention. I was eager to learn, to absorb the knowledge and to make the most of each opportunity that came my way. The next few months saw me become the Head of Retail for Panchshil and later Corporate Communications. Oh yes, all this certainly felt very good !
Having gathered all the information and know-how on my subject, I submitted my project to the University of Pune and thankfully once again i was fortunate enough to be triumphant! The happy day had arrived, I was done with my PhD too :) I could officially add Dr. before my name now! I was Dr. Maral Yazarloo!! It was a lovely feeling ! Escpecially because I could see my growth, I could witness my transitions from one phase of my life to another stage!!!
As time elapsed, I fell in love with my job. Each day, a little more… But designing?? Yes, it was still playing on my mind and gradually it occured to me that thoughts of the fashion world were taking up a lot of my time. Starting my own brand was becoming more and more important to me!! This thirst for fashion and designing had to be quenched .. It had to be done as soon as possible!
Till then I had already been to over 60 countries … Loved the idea of being to new places, experiencing new cultures, meeting new people, tasting new cuisines and most importantly, witnessing new design aesthetics … After a point of time, this became another reason inspiring me to take up designing. The art of combining colours with cultures to make a beautiful piece was an exciting thought!
Soon, I was designing my own clothes for all my essential functions … I wore one of my own in Paris for the LV show and cocktail party … People loved it, I took it as a sign (blissfull). As soon as I got back to India, I fixed a meeting with my guru;) i.e. my boss to discuss the same and get his permission to look at design a little more seriously. He listened to what I had to say, thought about it and said to me “Working for a company is one thing, nonetheless, having your own is altogether another headache, but the satisfaction you get from your own creation is incomparable to anything else in the universe!” Then he said “Go ahead, but promise me that your focus will be at Panchshil office too till you deliver your projects.” Touchwood, I’m blessed to have a guru like him…
Green signal recieved 😉 , I was thrilled with the way God was treating me!
As you all know by now how quick I am, I hired a masterji, a sincere and hard working girl named Chetna and started experimenting !!
Meanwhile, I was in Mumbai for a meeting , while crossing Bandra my eyes fell in love with a cute 48-Harley Davidson! I was not a biker at that point of time but couldn’t resist it… People around me could see my interest , but it was only me who truly felt it ! I was touching the beast as though i was caressing a loved one and in turn, this action was tickling my crazy adventurous side! No more pondering!! As quick as always , without trying the bike or even giving it a second thought, I paid the deposit!
Who knew I was going to be the one and only female In India who would have the highest mileage on the road as compared to that of any other female Harley rider!
From crossing the 55,000 km mark; attending the international HOG ride in Bhutan to crossing 70,000 kms in a couple of years, I have begun to love biking more than ever!!! This was just the beginning! My fetish for automobiles didn’t end there! I came a long way from that moment of my existence to the moment where I became the only woman in India owning a Nightrod-Harley Davidson , a Ducati Diavel and also BMW GS!! Life is unimaginable without my bikes now!!! Biking has become a passion , a desire!
And yes, now, very happily I can say that India unceasingly has had its own plans for me
