Recently I was asked what are my 3 favorite things. I have never had such an easy time answering a question about myself. That is easy, my family, art and the environment! On the other hand, I have never felt so uncomfortable creating these photos, self portraits! These works represent a part of me that I feel uncomfortable with. This is partially because they take apart something I have always loved, fairy tales, show an emotion that is usually appropriated to men, Anger, and a state of being after caring for my children for ten years. No matter if you are a strong women, stereotypes of patriarchy sneak into your life. Aftermath, I don't feel uncomfortable no more as we should not forget, man or women we all have an animal instinct left in us!
When I am not using my scissors, I am using my camera. All of my works are photo based and often they are manipulated to better represent my thoughts. I do so, because like life, not everything is black or white, there are often many nuances of grey. I am from a small town called Aylmer, Québec and I studied art at the Ottawa School of Art. My work is influence by my current status in life, a stay at home mom by choice. My work will then often reflect on daily mundane life, current news by the bias of fairy tales, animal mythology.
