Matthew Alfonso Durante is a Los Angeles-based figurative artist, with an interest in pursuing a sense of vitality and dynamism in human flesh and the natural landscape. He learned his fundamentals at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, and earned an M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art in 2017.
In these drawings, Matthew has fused the figure and the landscape with reds and pinks that he uses as a sign of life. Gestural marks that become trees and branches are meant to imply movement, and the cut-out areas a feeling of looking in.
