Mysophobia is the pathological fear of contamination and germs. I'm not a sufferer myself (although I have some issues about preparing raw meat, especially chicken, probably due to a bout of food poisoning when I was 12). I am really interested in our cultural attitudes to cleanliness, microbes and decay.
I've been making mini sculptures and have started placing them in public spaces. Most are placed outside, but I'm keen to find better homes for my colonies where they can grow and prosper (public toilets, bar/kitchen areas, etc). I would like them to act as a reminder that microbes are everywhere in our environment, no matter how much bleach you use, and that maybe we should examine how we really feel about that. I think I've come to terms with it, but I'm very interested in how others feel.
The microbes I've been spreading are small, cryptic and occur singly or in small colonies. I have also created larger, more colourful species (some are metal, enamel/glass and very 'jewel-like').
