My "Mask" series of self portraits features the use of various masks used for skincare. It is with this series that I explore the "vain" hope that these products offer of perfection, and the expectation that women be constantly in a state of improving their appearances- that they always be "under construction." Primarily through self-portraiture, my paintings address the oftentimes exhausting nature of being female in today's culture, as well as the emotional and cultural baggage that are tied to gender expression and performative femininity.
