Day 288 - Other Than Thinking
Three characteristics of most opinions:
They are grounded in assumption
They are expressions of prejudice
They are posturing
I frequently run into opinions in the workplace about the length of my hair or that I choose to practice an 'other than' religion. When I hear them I immediately leap after my own opinions. If I move quickly enough, I don't have to think; I can just judge.
No one is impressed by my opinions, either. Perhaps I'll just lay them aside.
Other Than, Jesus
I find comfort in my vice,
rites and passwords, robes,
and all the trees.
You find fear in it,
if you actually find anything at all.
More likely you're
you're just listening to the same old song.
But go ahead,
put your hand out and grab hold.
You're bound to find something to fear
in the ridges and folds,
the fabrics of other than
the things you've always known.
