Day 342 - Only I
Three ways to enjoy:
By being able to choose
By being able to walk away
By being able to join in
When 'life' happens, it can shut you down in so many ways. It's most common to think that your choices have been limited, but that's not always true. Often it's just that we're not willing to accept consequences and make a choice that leads towards joy.
It's harder to just walk away from 'life'. But that's often a viable choice. It means sacrifice, of course.
It's hardest, sometimes, to join in. That happens after we've allowed ourselves to be marginalized by accepting limitations, by making sacrifices when others do not.
If I remember that joy is a choice, I can choose to sidestep what would limit me. I can dispassionately assess the pros and cons of sacrifice, and make a decision I can live with. And I can join into joyful occasions even when I can't remember joy.
I can do all this, because I have choice, but only when I choose to give myself that gift. No one else can.
