Check out this Stop Motion about my favorite Character Samus Aran.
Artist Statement: Metroid Friend
Metroid Friend is a stop motion short film that revolves around the feeling of missing someone special. This film is based around one of my favorite video games characters, Samus Aran. Within her space as a figurine, she enters the scene and realizes that she is alone. Seeing an image of herself with a companion brings a memory back to her. She wants to be reunited yet forces it and almost pushes her friend away. In the end, the distance brings the two closer.
The usage of the figurines was due to the flexibility of them and their somewhat detailed movements. The figurine being used is one of my favorite ones I own and sadly during the film process, it was damaged. However this model choice helps with building more expressive movement with usual unmovable objects. The small scale of the figures helped convey the larger concept of “elusiveness”.
The process of taking the photos was tedious however the continuous process made it easier to explore different camera angles. When the photos continued, it made capturing the “model”’s perspective and emotions.
