In my search for visual forms, I consolidate the exchange between my personal gaze as an artist, and the narrative contained within the subject. What I look for in this narrative is the representation of not only a catharsis, but also the revelation of a hidden identity. It is not the pose, product of training or repetition.
My method is simple: to stimulate irrationality in gestures, in pauses, and in poses. It is almost the same process as with a performance, but above all, it is the final result of automatism. Painter with a background in the architectural industry. Received an MFA in visual arts from the University of Victoria in 2017.
The immediacy of a direct correlation between a mark and its origin allows painting to shift from abstraction to actuality and become a practical artifact of an event taken place. These paintings are now tools promoting a conscious awareness of architectural space and the viewer’s presence within it.
Gouzy is a French visual artist who creates surrealist compositions. Created using an "objective hazard" strategy, Gouzy's collages feature painstakingly cut-out female body parts on brightly coloured backgrounds, enhanced by all sorts of day-to-day ojects: glasses, guns, masks, high-heels, hub caps, cameras... Animality, eroticism, and derision are at the heart of these works
With this work Gouzy offers a grotesque vision of reality, to see more clearly in this human comedy."
