In the series Home, photographer, Melissa Pelkey shows color images of doorways, steps and entrances to houses and buildings. In the book Reclaiming Female Agency, Norma Broude and Mary D. Garrard state, "The house typically is remembered as a source of warmth and maternal protection" (Broude 367). With these images I am looking for the familiarity of home. This has always been a struggle for me since I left my parent's home when I was only 17, and I have been searching for my own home, and the warmth, love and familiarity of a home, since 1997.
Melissa Pelkey grew up and lives in Vermont. She earned her degree in photography from Burlington College, in Burlington, Vermont 2010. Melissa also loves to photograph nature and her macro lens is the most used.
