The New Year: Off to a Rocky Start
All this week I have blocks of time set aside for what I call "New Year's Cleaning." I declutter, clean, and slightly redecorate room by room. I traded the TARDIS shower curtain for a mostly white Aperture Science curtain and hung a new pice of art in the upstairs bathroom and, as it was supposed to, it really brightened up the room. I've stored away all the Harry Potter Xmas decorations in a less mousey location than the basement so they will be safe for next year. I need to catch up on laundry and menu planning and serious decluttering. I used some gift certificates to order some new books and have started planning next year's surprises. All of this is good.
Not Good: I feel ill, my youngest is ill, we got less than half of last month's rent from the tenants who suddenly moved out and now it's January and we aren't getting anything at all for January. That SUCKS. Painting and repairs to the apartment are being assessed by our fix-it people and so far painting and carpentry total about $2,400, the drop ceilings, radiators, and carpeting are all left out of that... and the new fridge. We're pretty screwed financially at the moment. I need to figure out what's wrong with my sewing machine and get my Etsy shop back open. Oh and both our cars are ailing etc etc. I'm not sure my little shop is going to help anywhere near as much as it needs to. I might have to get an actual job, a process fraught with difficulty since I am the only transportation for 2 kids needing to get to school, college and work. I know, it could be much worse, I am grateful that it isn't. I just wish things were better. We could really stand for some excellent financial news ASAP.
Happy New Year, Children. May you all prosper and grow happier and healthier all year long.
