I have decided that for my first project I would like to use the laser cutters on wood. I am very interested to experiment with patterns and shapes in order to do this. For my first idea, I decided to create my own decorated skull. Apparently since I was little skulls have been my thing so I decided to use this ship for my project. I am interested to see how the decorations inside would turn out. I would also like to play around with the smoke effect that can be applied to a wood work with the laser cutter. I was actually inspired by a 3D printed skull model that is in the Fab Lab that I kind off wanted to take home, and a laser cut model of the image of a woman printed on wood with this interesting brunt effect.
For my other idea, I was thinking of printing on wood a fantasy scene. Mermaids have always been my favorite fantasy character so I was hoping to apply that to the piece. It also gives me that opportunity to work with textures and see how they would look printed out on wood. A good example of this would be the tail. If I use this drawing I will definitely change most of how it looks because I am not ok with how it turned out. However, for this idea I would like to play around with the ways of cutting with the laser cutter, for example I would want to cut out the sun completely and have different cuts through out the rest of the image. Only problem is that I am not sure if that is even possible to do.
