Tips and Tricks to Use Skype
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, millions of people started working from home on their laptops and computers. And the meetings that used to take place in the office’s conference halls now moved to video conferencing apps like Skype. Many people today are also using these apps to attend social events like weddings and other ceremonies, keeping in mind the pandemic guidelines. If you are from those millions, you should probably learn about some tips and tricks to increase your productivity or level of interactions while using Skype. So, to make your task easier, we have put this article with some useful tips that you can try on Skype.
Set a Caller ID
Skype can be used to make mobile, and landline calls for a charge. You can also set up a Skype caller ID so that your collaborators know that it is you who is calling them. Fortunately, this feature is free to set up and use.
Step 1. Start by opening the Skype app on your Android or computer.
Step 2. Then click on the Settings icon.
Step 3. Scroll down to select the Calling option and turn the slider for Caller ID to the “ON” position.
Step 4. Now, find and click your country from the drop-down list.
Step 5. A box will appear, enter your mobile number in that box and hit Save. Now, you will receive a verification code on your mobile device.
Step 6: Enter this unique code in the box meant for it, and Skype caller ID should be set to use.
With Skype’s call forwarding feature, you can never miss any important call. All you need to do is enable the call forwarding feature by following the steps mentioned above. The only difference in the procedure is that you will have to open the “Call Forwarding and Voicemail” option instead of “Calling.” After opening the “Call Forwarding and Voicemail” option, turn the slider to the “ON” position.
You will also find an option to set the time interval after which you wish the calls to be forwarded to you. Below this option, you will find another option to select where you want the call to be forwarded. The options include Voicemail, Another Skype account, and A Mobile or Landline Number. Choosing the last option is the most helpful, as it will ring a bell directly on your phone to let you know that you have received a Skype call.
Add Subtitles During Calls
If you have international clients, then this Call Subtitles feature will prove to be very helpful for you. If you find it difficult to understand a foreign accent, then Skype is there to assist. The Call Subtitles feature enables subtitles during calls. This means you can read the words that are being spoken on a video or audio call. All you need to do is go to Settings, then click on Calling > Call Subtitles. Then switch the slider next to the “Show subtitles for all calls” on.
Like most of the other Android apps, Skype also has an option to switch between Dark Mode and Light Mode. If you find the Dark Mode comforting, then here is how to enable it for Skype:
Step 1. Go to the Skype app.
Step 2. Select the Settings option.
Step 3. Open Appearance.
Step 4. Switch on the toggle for the Dark theme under the Modes section.
You can also change the color for speech bubbles in the Appearances section and enable “High contrast dark mode” for a more powerful effect.
Set the Background
Like most other video conferencing apps, Skype also has the option to add a custom background in case your room is a mess, but you don’t want anyone to look at it. All you need to do is open your computer, navigate to Settings > Audio & Video > Choose a background. Several default backgrounds will appear to choose from. You can also use any image of your choice as your background on Skype by clicking on the “+” button.
Conversations on a call can lead to everywhere from anywhere. And sometimes, you might need to share the contact details of someone while being on call. Well, on Skype, it’s not a problem at all. Be it your Android phone or your desktop, you just need a few clicks to get going.
On a smartphone, open the chat window of the person you wish to share the contact details with. Then tap on the “+” icon at the top left corner to open a menu. Now, tap on the Contact option to open the list of all your contacts. Find and tick mark the box/boxes of the contact you wish to share.
For a PC, again open the chat window of the person with whom you wish to share the contact information, click the second button at the top right corner, and finally select the Contacts you have to share.
We hope the next time you attend a video conference on Skype, you will know all the workarounds of the app.
