Alyssa here with a short(ish) note.
2019 was one hell of a year, and I was happy to see Midwest Action topping last year’s traffic and continuing to release good music. I’m proud of my bb, and I'm gonna share some of my favorite MWA releases of 2019:
1–*69 by Emily Blue
After fawning over “Cellophane” and “Microscope,” I was so honored when she wanted to work with us on her physical release. It’s just so good–like unreal good–and such an awesome example of the talent in the Midwest.
2–I’m So Lucky to Die Here by Necromoon
This is so shoegazey and psychy and washy; perfect sunny summer or lazy winter music. Clear purple cassette, floral artwork, it’s one of my favorite examples of an album that looks as good as it sounds.
3–Crash the Party by Ovef Ow
Midwest Action’s first vinyl release since MWA001 in 2014. I was so happy to work with Ovef Ow–they’re such good folks. The record is bright pink, BEAUTIFUL!, and filled with great music 🤙🏻
4–American Queers by @SuperKnovaMusic
Our first vinyl LP release! I swooned over SuperKnova’s EP, and the opportunity to collaborate on her vinyl debut was a dream. Also, the record matches her eyeshadow on the jacket and that’s so GOOD.
5–Blowie Pt. 2 by BRBRA BUSH
BRBRA is W I L D, and I’m happy that they’ve trusted Dan and I with releasing this madness on cassette. I’ve never been in a band before, and I’ve had the most fun being their sequin-wearing shouter.
I am, of course, proud of every single thing we’ve released. 2019 was so good to Midwest Action. Thank you all for hanging out with us. I’m not gonna pull the “BIG THINGS AHEAD” card, but I have so much faith in this passion project as we approach our TENTH anniversary. <3
