It is a work based on the idea of appropriation, in order to build a kind of encyclopedia of remnants of art, history, war, beauty, cinematography.
The composition I create with the appropriate elements, is intended to cite some of the permanent problems in contemporary art and in the world.
By Miguel Martins
I am an artist from Porto, Portugal, Graduated in the Superior School of Art of Porto.
My artistic preoccupations are varied and always surround themes such as the self-portraits of the body, the materiality, the ephemerality of perception and its limits, the transgression of representation, the tyranny of the rectangle and finally the criticism of art and contemporary society.
The installation and interception of all means to achieve an end is one of the characteristics of my work, as well as the hybridization of several artistic mediums such as photography and sculpture or music with visuals in structured environments.
In short, I think we live in an age where the acceleration of information and the biological clock is pre-present. In a world where everything is disposable and worthless, art retains a memento of humanism and beauty restoring balance.
