My name's Michael Beecham, and I'm a Dorset-based photographer, currently worked on a long-term project called 'The Downs'
The 'Downs' project was borne out of a desire to document a local area of outstanding natural beauty, close to where I live. Nestled between the counties of Dorset and Wiltshire in the South of England, this area is home to farmers, dog-walkers, paragliders, hobbyists and lots of livestock.
The obvious choice would have been to create a simple landscape project, but those are in plentiful supply. Instead, I wanted to scratch beneath the surface to become more intimate with the area itself. What started as a simple idea of capturing a different perspective grew into something much bigger, and the idea of documenting the landscape over 4 seasons began to take shape. I've now been shooting on the Downs for over a year, using a number of different approaches to my photography and capturing the drama, tranquility and beauty of this area that I like to call...home.
