My name is Miguel. I’m a 17 year old queer chicanx student/photographer from Chicago. Most of my work is either portraiture or fashion-based but I actively only shoot people of color using analogue tools like film photography. Through my pieces, I try to deconstruct and analyze the different intersections of identity and how those intersections interact with the privileges (or lack thereof) that have been set by the hegemonic structures that society has put in place. Some this intersections then translate to ideas like beauty standards or gendered fashion that can then be visually portrayed and communicated.
With this grant, I will be able to create an extensive series on social-disparity that is not often seen day to day and seeing that I work only on analogue media (film photography) the grant would be very helpful in obtaining the supplies necessary.
