So today I had the chance to go and do some teaching at a local centre that provides respite days for various people along with their carers. Obviously I took lots of sparkly beads, some memory wire and a big smile - we had a fantastic day and everyone went home with at least one new piece of jewellery, along with some giggles and skills to keep practicing.
The making wasn't even the most important part - it's that chance to be able to switch off the 'noise' for a while and just do something a bit different.
One lady was the sole carer for her husband of 62 years - she made a beautiful floral bracelet, all the while apologising for her shaky hands and slowness - she was keeping her eye on the time as her husband likes to have a routine - I was just happy to have been able to give her a little time for herself.
I'll be back there next month and I'm already planning what to take along for them to all try 🙂
