Morning! I thought I'd show you all my Makers mark - here in the UK it's illegal to sell precious metals as such, if they are over a certain weight, without a valid set of marks. There are 4 Assay Offices in the UK, from Edinburgh down to London. I'm registered with Birmingham.
The marks you see on silver, gold and platinum jewellery will help you to identify its type, where it was assayed (the process of formal testing) and who made it - sometimes there's also a date letter, although this is optional now.
