For a company selling us on not-being-sold type advertising, they are not being as transparent as they maybe should be. The author does not clarify what the exit strategy is for the venture capital that Ello took (it is probably not public) but as a comapny priding us on not being products, it sure makes a good point - I think Ello should release the deal details. How are we being monetized or how will the company get reimbursed their 435k and interest if there are no adds and we are not products? What will be bought or sold or traded or monetized?
I don't know about these things, and I realize that by participating in the internet web 4.0 whatever the fuck we're basically agreeing to be profiled in one way or another and that people need to make money off people but it seems insulting to build your platform and community off the anti-Facebook we-won't-monetize-your-life-to-hell platform while also having some kind of built in venture capital agreement.
