Title : "Brest la blanche"
Project description :
Brest is one of the most western cities of France at the very end of Brittany. You can't pass by, you have to go there. It was named "Brest la blanche" by sailor as it looked like a big white mass as they approached it from the sea.
The culture has changed since then, especially after world war II as it was almost totally destroyed and rebuilt in a very short time. It doesn't look "blanche" anymore... This project documents the weight of these architectural and cultural changes on people: Are they confined by the way other people define it?
What do they think about the fact their city is considered a soggy, rainy, foggy, grey and ugly town?
Is Brest still "Blanche"? Is this even true?
This is an ongoing project I started in 2014 that will probably last a lifetime. Exclusively shot on black and white Film.
