Took advantage of the beautiful day today and visited the Calgary Tower
That's it in the background. There's an observation level at the top that has this bit sticking out the side... with a glass floor.
Y'all know me. I can ride any coaster or thrill ride, no problem. Heights, though... I'm pretty good on observation decks if they're inside. I'm so-so on an outdoor deck. I usually hang back from the edge a bit and I certainly don't lean over the rail. The ability to see through the floor from this height on a little sticky-out bit away from the rest of the tower was not ok with my head. At all.
I was there at exactly the right time to catch the shadow of the tower in the middle of Centre St. I took that shot through the fucking floor. Through the fucking floor! Still hadn't stood on it. Decided to wander around the rest of the deck and see the 360 views.
Above: looking roughly north. Below: Calgary Stampede grounds and the Saddledome.
You can see my house from here! (Just to the right of the top of the orange crane near the center of the pic.) On a clear day, you can also see the Canadian Rockies.
Back around to the beginning and having another look at the floor. I tried to reach the handrail before stepping out onto the glass, but it's too far. You have to step onto the glass without anything to hang onto. You have to take a second step onto the glass, meaning BOTH feet are on the glass, before you can grab the handrail along the outer window. It was terrifying. Seriously. Sweaty palms, quick breathing, a bit of the shakes. The only reason I didn't shake more was because I didn't want to vibrate the floor!
