Grande Absente was my introduction to absinthe, which is ironic since it's not real absinthe. Note the word "liqueur" on the bottom corner of the label. This means that sugar has been added already and thus is a liqueur rather than a spirit, which absinthe must be. This is also ironic, since traditional absinthe preparation involves dripping water over a sugar cube into the glass before drinking. At any rate, the stuff isn't bad, it just isn't real. It was, however, tasty enough to get me to embark on an exploration of absinthe, to learn all I could about it, and to develop a palate of discernment. Not a great place to start the journey, but not tragic, either.
