The Persistence Of Life

With 10x the testosterone of women, men are constantly producing sperm and have an insatiable sexual appetite. This has contributed to their role of the ‘hunter’ and that of the ‘prey’ for females in the vastly complicated cycle of sex and reproduction that must also fit into the hazy confines of social behavior. In The Persistence Of Life a sperm carrying the flower of life offers itself to an egg but it is rebuffed. Not that long ago relatively speaking, a man would not have asked permission, he would have simply taken what he wanted….women were property, they were bargained for, bought and owned, their lives were not theirs but belonged to their father or to the man their father gave or sold her to.
The ability for a woman to say no to a man’s advances is one of the best things western society has embraced and propagated. It shows how far humans have come and how far there is yet to go.
It is not equality between men and woman that I seek, that would be ridiculous and diminish the wonderful differences that are the driving force for bringing men and woman together. It is the mutual respect and empathy for another human's life and their sovereignty and freedom over their own being that must be treated equally.
