BODY & FLESH - Consumption and value loss
In today’s meritocracy and throwaway society which is built up only on profit and reason, human beings are deteriorating and becoming consumer goods.
Positive values such as happiness, safety, security and friendship are forced into the background.
The only thing that matters is an economic success.
Issues such as factory farming, stock bubbles, ecological disasters, human trafficking, political instability, inflation, and pornography are omnipresent.
At the same time, essential social aspects are neglected.
As a result, human beings respond to that with increasing violence and bigotry as well as with physical and psychological diseases. This circle of constant value loss is closed by compensation by consumption and again profit orientation.
My name is Marko Panic and I'm a photographer based in munich. With my work I am focusing on socio- critical photographic art.
In this time and age, we are run over daily by a plethora of images in Social Media, on TV and in the advertisement as well in digital and analogous life. It’s getting more and more important for a photographer to stand out from this crowd. That’s why I not only want to present “beautiful” pictures but also thought-provoking ones that hold a mirror up to society.
I like to treat subjects critical to society, such as overconsumption, factory farming, human trafficking, prostitution, drug abuse. By provocation and aesthetics in my work, I want to bring these subjects closer to people and provoke awareness and spur them into action; at least I want to make them available for discussions and solution approach.
A developed society as ours should be so far anyway, indeed; but this is prevented by the raising avarice and power-mania of single individuals and structures. Thereby it becomes more and more difficult to break through the circulation of steady value loss.
