I lifted my head up to see him smiling at me. I tried to smile back, but my mouth couldn’t make the slightest movement. I lowered my head again and buried it between my knees. I felt his hands grip onto my shoulders.
“Look at me,” he said.
I remained silent.
“Will you please talk to me?” he asked.
I didn’t respond, knowing he has already heard it all. Telling him anything more will be a waste of time. I started to shake a little, as though I just felt a cold draft. My heart began to beat faster, like a moth’s wings fluttering wildly against a hot light. I wanted to lift myself up, but gravity was using all of its force to keep me down. I slowly lifted my head and noticed him still sitting in front of me. I slightly opened my mouth in an attempt to say something; however, no words came out. I tried again, but it was like I suddenly lost all of my words. I quickly covered my mouth with my hands to muffle the sound of my crying.
“Don’t cry,” he said, while rubbing my cheeks.
He continued, “I know you’re trying your hardest.”
