Brock Turner isn't a very good rapist. He's a failed scavenger betrayed by his own incompetence. Who truly terrifies me are the highly skilled rapists who hunt singly or in packs (wherein they are often schooled by elders), who don't as a rule get caught, who lie, manipulate, intoxicate, drug, and, in fact, poison women in order to rape them exhibiting the coldest calculated malice aforethought. College campuses are their hunting grounds. It was true when I was in college. It is true today. And maybe, just maybe, Project Callisto, a trauma-informed college sexual assault reporting system will inhibit the worst serial rapists.
