Artist Bio: Thuy Quevedo is an illustrator and ceramicist from San Diego California. At eighteen years old she's only been okay at art for 2 years, and bad at it for 16. She loves putting women in unwitting situations, celebrating their womanhood through casual ubiquity.
These two illustrations are whimsical pictures, of the organic nature of community. A community of flowers who are all the same yet different, brought together by the fact they are family. A string of garlicky woman heads, or shrunken heads among the dried chiles if you want, brought together in their odd situation by the forces of the universe, or in this case, the artist playing god. The community and solidarity of being in a certain species, these images are made to mimic our human community and friend groups and families that we have, that can honestly all be chalked up to chance. Life can be funny that way.
