Lady Odalisque #1 & #4.
Acrylic on paper.
These are inspired by the Grande Odalisque, painted by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres around 1814. It has long since inspired me with own paintings.
Bird feathers were incorporated into the paintings. A modern twist on an historical classic. I used myself as a model. Lucky for me, I was packing roles, due to Corona lockdowns in Copenhagen, when I took pictures of myself for the study.
Hopefully, I have removed the notion of the odalisque, or the concubine as it is sometimes known and instead have depicted a female, languishing in her own self assurity.
They are of course not finished yet and are laid out on my dining room table, four of them, as I paint, wait and paint again. It's exciting to be working on them again.
