This illustrated series explores different forms of love, as expressed through a vintage view on Black American culture. The series pulls heavily from the fashion style of 1950's America. I desired to capture feelings of love we feel today, yet romanticize them by portraying these feelings in a different time.
One of the pieces portrays feelings of romantic love. Another piece explores the possibility of self love, or a love of career or path, That very same piece explores the feelings of a desired love, from family or friends. The final piece is a self portrait which portrays my love of my hometown, Washington DC.
I believe that in art, especially with illustrating, it is important that one dives into subject matter that is both exciting and challenging. I chose the subject of love and decided to include fashion,& a vibrant palette to portray everything I wished to communicate to the viewer.
