I'm fascinated by color and light. The way traffic lights and headlights reflect and change within glass windows. How the world looks entirely different when it rains. The streets suddenly reflecting every light and every movement. In a way, magic exists in our world in these ordinary moments. To me, the way light and color interact with each other in unexpected ways is magic.
With these collage works I hope to capture a certain amount of that magic with the use of glitter and texture. Photos I have taken in the past are collaged onto the paper before I begin painting. Most of the photograph gets covered with gestural marks and layers of color and texture, but some still manage to peak through. These are later outlined to be drawn more attention to. This process represents the passing of time and the way memories fade and get overshadowed by what is more present. These paintings explore nostalgia and the process of trying to hold onto the past.
