Before I knew what marketing was, I started promoting bands to podcasters. Major labels didn't know what a podcast was. Hell, they barely knew what the internet was. Podcasters didn't have any good music to play without worrying about going to jail (Metallica was suing their fans and 80 year old women at the time).
One of those bands was Black Lab (aka: @durham) - who sort of turned into the Beatles of online radio in 2007. Another was Ingrid Michaelson, who has gone on to do some pretty amazing stuff.
The one that I wish more people knew about was a group from New Jersey called "New London Fire". They had one brilliant album, and then sort of faded away a few half-finished solo projects later.
When I heard that their lead singer, Dave Debiak, had teamed up with Mikey Way (formerly of My Chemical Romance), I was cautiously optimistic. Now that I've heard their first single, I'm very, very stoked.
