"Grave Encounters" is a film about lost footage from a reality show. My least favorite reality genre, in fact. the genre in which I refer to as "morons in the dark." You know the formula. Take a handful of self-aggrandizing Ed Hardy wearing douchbags reeking of Ace body spray and put them in an abandoned building with peeling paint and watch 45 minutes of night vision footage of them interrogating empty rooms and running from their own Carl Jr.'s flatulence like scared kittens. At first I thought this might knock that type of moron bait down a peg or two. Alas, with its entourage of Cadillac swallowing plot holes, and lame "stare at the night vision camera and digitally morph the ghosts mouth effects, this film actually is inferior to the source material. It was almost laughable how cameras and tripods magically appear in locations in which they have never been.
