Hey Hey Ello. Looking forward to this Jell-o.
So, like a lot of other people this week, I'm new. I've been poking around and thinking about this place, trying to figure out what it is and what I'd maybe like it to be.
Already, I'm excited by the idea that it seems fairly easy to jot a few thoughts, without having to take extra time to edit for brevity (Hey, Twitter). So much more freedom so say what one means! And it also seems that posts made here don't have to be subjected to some mysterious 'algorithm' in order to be seen (Hey, Facebook), which is a relief. And I'm happy to see that, although most of the posts around here are pretty image-oriented, a few paragraphs of prose don't seem out of place either (Hey, Instagram).
So, although I'm a cartoonist and I mostly post images and artwork to other social places throughout the week, I think I'll try to use this Ello space in a more writerly way - even if only to make it a little different from the other places in which my characters and drawings tend to hang.
It may not work out this way, but I also hope that the Ello scene stays kind of arts and design-based (the way it seems to be now). The world definitely needs a space for baby/wedding/travel photos and that place is Facebook. What I'd mainly like to experience over here is interaction with writers and artists, and people in general, who are happy to showcase and discuss their own creative work or artwork they're excited to have discovered.
Here is a champagne bottle. I'm smashing it against the hull of this Ello thingy-ma-jingy and declaring this account the new 'Character Of The Day' Production Diary. I hope it will float.
