Those three portraits of political leaders were made with custom ink stamps carved on rubber erasers and black ink on paper (size 80 x 50 cm).
(This process is shown in details on pictures below.)
- First portrait represents Kim Jong-un, created with a rubber stamp which says "PIRATE".
- Second portrait represents Vladimir Putin, using a rubber stamp which says "SILENCE". - Third portrait represents Donald Trump, stamped with the word "IDIOCRACY".
Those very well known political personalities portraits are based on playing tricks with subliminal images, widely open to various interpretations, letting us the choice to choose how to "see" them.
My goal here was to create multiple meanings and challenge relationships between "words" and "images" by some kind of visual paradox based on distance :
Far away, those portraits only seems visual, whereas they slowly becomes textual while moving closer.

"Nishe is a French visual artist whose textual and visual polysemic creations revolve around different concepts, processes and themes :
Text/image duality, interpretation, perception, deciphering, questioning, context and temporality.
Inspired by Visual and Concrete Poetry, her experimental works contains cryptic words playing around those ideas of perception of words and images, often by playing with physical distance, deconstructing, blurring and mixing up traditional ways of reading a word. Each work is an invitation to think about the whole wide different (and often very personal) meanings a simple word can take for us."
