“MUTED - SPEAK”
Acrylic paint on canvas, 50 x 50 cm, 2018.
Statement about this work : This cryptic painting contains two words ; "MUTED" on the upper side, and "SPEAK" on the lower side. Both of those words are antonyms.
"Speak", langage, communication is the principal medium of our contemporary communities. They are built with unity to break silence, "muted" and forgotten things which are problematic in our society.
Hence those two words "muted" and "speak" are going each other on opposite paths, and what happens in the perfect middle of those, to break the link, is the birth of ... communities.
Bio : Nishe - French visual Artist - Born in 1989 - Master degree in Arts from "École Supérieure d'Art d'Avignon".
Inspired by Concrete and Visual Poetry, those experimental paintings contains cryptic geometric words playing around wide ideas of perception and interpretation of words and images, often by deconstructing, blurring and mixing up traditional ways of reading a word (vertical/horizontal mirrored or tilted words, specular writing, palindromes, anagrams, antonyms ...) Each one is an invitation to think about the whole wide different meanings a simple word can take for us.
