Aw, shucks. No hashtag support... but that gives me an idea.
Okay, actually I had that idea in the shower this morning while thinking about the problems that some of the hashtag-organized conversations on Twitter had earlier in the year dealing with hijacking and the like.
What if here on @ello hashtags got baked into a metadata layer the way that NSFW tagged accounts are going to be. Heck, what if tagging something #NSFW put that filter on without having to tag a whole account?
Taking that a step further: private channel hashtags. Put a # at the beginning and end of a tag #likeso# and that would be viewable only to people you designate.
Each instance of a #likeso# would be the start of a unique thread of that #privatehashtag# and be open to those the #hashtagstarter# tagged in a post with that tag. So I could add, say, @mannetta to these threads right now.
Leave some virality by having anyone who was tagged by the owner able to add more people to the conversation in the same way.
Sure, I just created a database nightmare and here come a thousand people to tell me I'm full of shit... but this is what I like about Betas: new turf, no rules. Nothing so fixed in stone that it can't be made better without upending expectations.
