A mountain climber will tell you that descending safely is as difficult as ascending, and sometimes more. Well, they didn't have to deal with seed-bats, rock lizards and giant spiders. Knowing what precautions to take, and where the beasts might be hiding, makes the descent down the spire far easier than the ascent was. It still takes two days to make the trip, but with time and care no terrible ills befall our heroes. They arrive at the town at the base of the spire in the late afternoon, out of supplies and not a little tired from the ordeal, but otherwise with no further crises to address.
The swan-boat they arrived in is still tied up at the dock, not too far from where the path meets the wharf. Shadows are growing long, though it's still an hour or so from sunset. Fishing boats are coming in, and while the shops are still open, most of the activity is focused on getting the day's catch processed.
