After about 36 hours of rest, on the morning of the second day after arrival, Director Manners calls the team in to one of the briefing rooms. Once everyone is present, she begins her presentation.
"Currently, Prince Caine of Amber, AKA Archer Greene, is the number one danger to Earth and the nearby recursions. The incident at The Gloaming has been definitively traced to him, possibly with the support and knowledge of Princess Fiona. While Gerard has been helpful, his position as an official representative of the Crown of Amber means that he is unwilling or unable to act directly against Caine. He has intimated, however, that some of his brothers and sisters might not be as reticent. You are to seek out and make contact with other members of the royal family of Amber, and attempt to directly ascertain their stance with regard to Caine, and possibly recruit them as allies. Our goal here is not necessarily to defeat him directly, but to get him to call off his assault. Persuasion, coercion, and capture are just as effective as termination.
"As a secondary goal, learn what you can about the ways that they use The Strange. We can't fight him effectively if we don't understand his methods. Again, Prince Gerard is limited as to what he can tell us. Their ability to manipulate the Strange the way they do is a state secret. I'm sure they know we are trying to obtain this information, but be discreet. Don't give King Random any reason to reconsider his neutrality."
Manners raises a remote, dims the light, and a monitor on the wall starts up. An image of "Carl Corey," from his visit to the Estate, appears on the wall screen. "Let's go through some possible targets. You will recall Prince Corwin. Highly regarded by Prince Gerard. Able to infiltrate and evade the security of this facility with little difficulty. Assisted us already, if only to warn us of the threat of Prince Caine. Location unknown."
She clicks the remote again. A new image appears, of a gorgeous woman with flame-red hair. The photo is grainy and has some strange colors, like something taken a long time ago. She's holding a martini glass, laughing, standing next to John F. Kennedy. "Princess Florimel, AKA Evelyn Flaumel. Resided on Earth for many years, until mysteriously disappearing in 1972."
Click. The image is a still from a black and white security camera. It looks like it was possibly an airport somewhere. "Prince Bleys. Currently under house arrest in Castle Amber."
Click. The next is a portrait of a smiling face. Looks like something from LinkedIn. "Bill Roth. Lawyer, known associate of Evelyn Flaumel and Carl Corey. Disappeared mysteriously in 1976. Evidence is strong he was born on Earth. Might have loyalties that can be exploited, especially with regard to locating Prince Corwin or Princess Florimel."
Click. The next image is Agent O'Clery's drawing of Lady Lavender. "Princess Fiona."
Click. A drawing of a tall, slender man with a sword on his hip, dressed all in brown. "Prince Benedict. All we have here is a name. Find out whatever you can."
Click. A drawing of a woman with green hair, floating around her like she's underwater. "Princess Llewella, likewise."
Click. The monitor goes off and the lights come up. "Any questions?"
