Barata Arquitectos is an architecture, urban planning and interior design studio from Porto, working primarily in the fields of building rehabilitation and urban space interventions.
Founded by Francisco Barata, the studio recently became co-managed by his son Manel. Together, they've asked us to define new strategies for their communication, based on a strong desire to update their visual identity into a contemporary tone.
Despite the differences in their vision for the studio – motivated by belonging to different generations – the core of values by which the Barata guide their architecture approach by is very similar – huge respect for the pre existing conditions, the will to rebuild before considering designing from scratch, and a generous preoccupation with the social issues raised by their intervention.
Our work was mostly focused on finding a simple solution, able to adapt itself to different tones depending on the way and media it was used at – meaning both Barata (father and son) should be comfortable with their studio's visual communication, either on more traditional approaches like the stationary, or bolder alternatives, where graphic and typographic elements can have a bigger presence. The result is a system based on the motto B+B that can change its configuration according to the place, scale and media it is used at.
