Three poems for the Not for Print mag.
Shift, pry, and squirm as you're stuffed into a box. Knees against your chest and leeches against your flesh.
"This is how it should be," bossman drums. You drip sweat sickly green caked in grins. Through gritted teeth you nod along as bossman preaches, "you're not worthy."
And you grin, wide as plastic, "this is how it should be."
Until you peel away your green mold.
Fuck Shit Up
Take a bat to the machine
Swing as hard as you can
Walk out of line
Speak out of turn
Let them know
You're gonna rock this boat
Shatter their status quo
And resist their world of hurt
Glass and stone
bend your back
pit your flesh
wrought from ache
Hail to the concrete throne
Me: Matthew Marchitto, writer from Quebec, Canada.
Green Mold and Concrete Throne are both centered on financial inequality and how people in power try to push the idea that this inequality is somehow virtuous, and how we should reject this idea. Fuck Shit Up is about not being afraid to rock the boat and upset the status quo in order to push toward a better tomorrow.
