Resist The Scaremongering Media
In our current age we are constantly bombarded with ‘breaking’ news, from various sources of varying credibility, each with it’s own bias and spin on current affairs. This constant barrage of hyperbolic reporting is completely unavoidable, leading to a constant sense of fear, anxiety and hopelessness. Furthermore, each media outlet twists the truth to it’s own advantage. Polls are faked, facts skewed and headlines completely fabricated to align with the shareholders and owners personal views.
Resist Smartphone Addiction
Smartphones have changed human behaviour in unimaginable ways in an incredibly short amount of time. Our lives are based around the people we connect with through our phones rather than the very people in front of us. A notification of a heart with a number next to it is more valued than face to face human interaction. Any view or thought can be shared with hundreds or thousands with little effort or thought and so too can information be consumed and digested regardless of the credibility or origin of the source. Smartphones breed complacency and rid people of the time for self-reflection. The fact that any moment of non-activity can be filled with mindless scrolling stifles creativity and the need to amuse yourself with the trivial yet important nuances of human existence.
Resist Constant Surveillance
There are over 25 million CCTV cameras in the world, with 10% of those existing within the UK. The average person is caught on camera thousands of time a day, with every movement being detailed a recorded despite the fact most people are law-abiding citizens about their daily business. What’s more, the footage captured by these cameras is often useless, with footage being overwritten within a matter of hours of being captured. Whilst a deterrent, rarely is CCTV footage reviewed in hindsight to find the perpetrators of minor crimes. The constant feeling of being watched and monitored whilst simply going about every day life can often be intimidating and stressful and make the general public fear what could happen or feel guilt for merely existing.
