The Opposite of Hubris
Notty Bumbo, 2017
What can we do when the questions
No longer fit the problems?
To lay upon the cool grass
In summer's swelter
And wonder at the passing clouds
Affords no insight on the cruelties of men.
I shall rise then from this Earth,
Bend and strive to lift the sky's desires
Above the mundane fears of my time.
Perhaps I will achieve little of note,
But there can be no true refuge from despair
Without facing defeat again and again,
And still once more standing
To raise the bridge anew.
