in a recent email someone asked why i don't use zoom lenses, did it have anything to do with prime lenses being better or sharper?
i only use 2 focal lengths, 27mm & 50mm. this has nothing to do with quality or sharpness although prime lenses do tend to perform better at wider apertures. (i think that people need to stop concerning themselves with such matters)
i understand the focal lengths i use, i understand them so much that i know what an image will look like and how it will be framed before i put the camera up to my eye. i just don't get that with zoom lenses, they make me lazy and add too many options while i'm photographing. simplicity is the key and restriction will inevitably lead to creative problem solving.
